Edith Turney Mathews

Edith Turney Mathews was born on 11 Oct 1889 and was a school friend of Molly Evans at Beach Court School Walmer. Their families both lived in the Stourbridge area.

A couple of postcards from 1905, sent from the school to the fifteen year old Molly, have survived.  Both are signed ‘ETM’.

Edith married Basil Henry Jones on 3 Dec 1912 in Rangoon. On passenger lists he is described as a ‘merchant’. A photo labelled “The Basil Jones family” was also kept by Molly. It shows Basil and four sons taken about 1928.

Edith and her family continued to feature in Molly’s address book – first at an address in Frampton-on-Severn and finally as a widow back in Hackman’s Gate a handful of miles from Stourton Court. She died on 27 Jul 1969.
