Henry Edwin Palmer

Henry Edwin Palmer was born on 28 Sep 1858 the youngest son of Charles Palmer, a naval signalman based in Plymouth. At the age of 21 he married Elizabeth Jane Treleaven (Ginny) up in London – even though she too was from Plymouth.

If this was some kind of elopement, it did not lead to any long term family estrangement because in the 1881 census the young couple are back in Plymouth living or staying with their parents with their young son Percy.

Henry is listed as a commercial agent to a Glove Manufacturer in the 1891 and 1901 census. In 1908 when both his daughters are married they are living in Southend. By 1911 the address in the census is given as Richmond, Surrey – the place where their grandson Norman was born in 1910.

Both Henry and Ginny lived into their 80’s and died in retirement in Carbis Bay in Cornwall.
